Thanks for the Memories Walt

Walter 2I traveled to so many car shows with Walt that they are too numerous to mention; but, each and every one of them was an event to remember – Walt made them like that! One of my most memorable trips with him was to the Chattanooga Choo Choo First British Car Festival in November 1992. We left on November 5th with skies threatening. On the east side of Kansas City; when we drove over the first over-pass, the Magnette did a little dance and I said "Walt, did you feel that?" He said "I sure did". The next overpass, the same conversation ensued; but, we continued on our journey to Chattanooga, TN! We always enjoyed great conversation and he was especially happy to win trophies! We won the long distance award for this journey.

Walt, thanks for the memories!

Tribute to Walt Crist

Walt Model A 1Today, May 22, marks the date that a skinny 16 year old kid spotted a beautifully restored 1930 Model A Ford rumble seat Coupe, backed into a driveway in Leawood, Kansas. The car was gorgeous, immaculate and shiny He had always loved antique cars but rarely had the chance to see one up close. While ogling over the masterpiece, trying to take in every detail and memorize as much as possible, his dad came around to front of the car where he was inspecting the front suspension and said "Mr. Crist wants to know if you would like to drive the Model A"? The excited teenager quickly agreed, thinking this was just too good to be true! After carefully pulling out of the driveway, heading up the hill and double clutching in order to avoid clashing the unsynchronized gears, Walt casually asked how long he had been driving. His young chauffeur promptly informed him that he had received his driver's license one week ago yesterday. The look on Walt's face showed surprise but he assured the young greenhorn that he had no doubts about his driving abilities.

Walt, your kind gesture will not be forgotten. Rest in peace as the legacy of your humor, patience, confidence and friendship live on as an important part of the many lives you have touched.

Thank you for everything.
Eric Sole
